June 25, 2017

What usually goes through your mind when you hear that you are requested to take an assessment for a job opportunity? Some people think it is just another interview, some believe that it’s a pass-fail test, and some get so scared that they choose not to take the assessment as they feel like that they won’t do well. There is no need to get worried. You will probably get excited that you will take an assessment that will let you know more about a certain aspect of your character or your skill- set! On top of that, you will have the chance to make it clear to the company that you are a perfect fit for this job.
Recently, a large number of companies have started to trust assessments as a way of screening applicants. As it assessments provides a better evaluation of the candidate’s character and skill- set more than what they choose to share in their application, CV, and interview.
What are these assessments about?
Some of the pre-employment assessments can measure language skills, such as IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC. Others might be aptitude tests, designed to measure cognitive abilities or knowledge, or psychometric assessments to give the companies better understanding of the candidate’s personal traits.
Also, there are general skills tests like Viriphi Assessment, which measures communication, English proficiency, and numerical skills. Let’s not forget that those assessments are conducted in controlled and supervised environments, by professionally certified assessors who have mastered delivering the best assessment experience to thousands of job seekers. All of these assessments help companies understand a bit more about their applicants and assist them in making sound and informed decisions that are not subjective about why a certain candidate is likely to perform well as an employee.
Why should you take an assessment?
Whatever the type of the assessment is, it will help the company answer some important questions: How does an applicant deal within a team? Are they problem solvers? Can they think on their feet? Can they put their qualifications to use and solve a technical or job-related issue? You really can’t tell all of that from just the application or the interview.
That’s why it is important for you, the job seeker, to make sure when you mention a skill or ability in your profile or CV that it is backed up with justifications. And what justification is better than an assessment score can you use to prove your skills and abilities definitively? Take an assessment now!
